These simple directions for quick tattoo healing can help you enjoy your new body art sooner and more comfortably, but your own artist will give specific instructions to you directly. These directions come from top artists around the world, and are just suggested guidelines for you to follow.
DO NOT TOUCH THE BANDAGE! Your artist put it on for a very good reason to keep airborne bacteria from invading your wound. Open flesh is a breading ground for bacteria and infection. Leave the bandage on for a minimum of three hours. It is even better if you can leave the bandage on overnight. If you absolutely cannot resist the temptation to show off your new tattoo, ask your artist if they can cover it with clear cellophane wrap, so the tattoo can be viewed without the protective layer being removed. The lack of a bandage can cause the color and shape of your beautiful tattoo to become distorted, as a result of these airborne infections. While your tattoo artist takes proper care to ensure that no infection is produced during tattooing, the responsibility of proper tattoo aftercare lies on your shoulders (the tattoo holder). ``
WHEN REMOVING THE GAUZE: A tattoo is an abrasion, and it may bleed a little at first but should subside within a few hours. When you attempt to remove the gauze, it may stick. If it does stick to your skin, wet the area with clean water, and remove the gauze slowly.
WASH AND TREAT: After you remove the bandage you will want to wash your tattoo. Use lukewarm water and antibacterial soap to completely clean off all ointment and blood residue. Do not use a cloth or abrasives; your fingers are the best cleaning tools. Once the tattoo is clean go ahead and blot the area with a clean dry towel, NO RUBBING!
Now apply a thin layer of TATWAX aftercare ointment to the tattoo. TATWAX keeps your tattoo soft and moist, but use sparingly as too much prevents the skin from breathing. DO NOT REBANDAGE. Repeat this cleaning process three times a day for seven to fourteen days. DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN!
Here are some important points to remember:
*Do not use Vaseline or petroleum based products on your tattoo.
*Do not use alcohol to clean your tattoo.
*Do not pick or rub your tattoo. Avoid direct sunlight, tanning booths, swimming, saunas, steam baths and bathtubs for two weeks.
